Cost centres — profit & loss per branch, project or team
Tag invoices and expenses to a cost centre and read a profit & loss for each one, so you can see which branch, project or team actually makes money.
A cost centre is any part of your business you want to measure on its own — a branch, a project, a team, a vehicle. Tag your invoices and expenses to one and Finocket shows a profit & loss per centre, so you can see which parts actually make money.
Set up cost centres
It's an optional module: turn on Cost centres under Profile → Modules first. Then, on the Cost centres screen, add a centre for each thing you want to track — Andheri branch, Website project, Sales team. You can archive a centre you no longer use; its past tagging stays intact for old reports.
Tag as you go
Once the module is on, the invoice and expense forms show a Cost centre picker. Choose one when you raise an invoice or record an expense — or leave it blank and the entry counts as Unassigned, so nothing silently disappears from the totals.
Read the P&L per centre
The Cost centres screen carries the report: pick a date range and it lists every centre with its income, its expenses and the net — plus an Unassigned row and a grand total. It's the quickest way to answer “is this branch / project actually profitable?”
Access & control
Owners and assistants create centres and tag entries; an invited accountant reads the per-centre P&L read-only. If a teammate can't see the picker, check the module is enabled under Profile → Modules.
Frequently asked questions
How do I see branch-wise profit and loss?
Create a cost centre per branch, tag each invoice and expense to its branch as you record it, then open the Cost centres report for any date range — income, expenses and net per branch, side by side.
What happens to entries I forget to tag?
They roll into the Unassigned row of the report, so the totals always reconcile with your overall P&L. Retag an entry any time by editing it.
Can I delete a cost centre I no longer use?
Archive it instead — past tagging stays intact so historical reports keep working; the centre just stops appearing in pickers.
Is a cost centre the same as a project?
They overlap: projects track work and billing, cost centres track profitability slices. Use a cost centre when you want a P&L for the slice — you can have one per project, per branch or per team.
