Recurring rules — retainers, salaries & SIPs
Set a rule once — income, expense or invoice, daily to yearly with an every-N interval — and Finocket posts the entry on schedule, even when the app is closed. Invoice rules create drafts for you to review and send.
Anything that repeats — a monthly retainer, your salary, a software subscription, an SIP, even the retainer invoice itself — can be a recurring rule: set it up once and Finocket posts the entry on schedule, server-side, even when you never open the app.
What can recur
- Income — posts a payment on each run. Pick the client it comes from (a retainer client, or your employer added as a client for salary). The entry lands in your Day Book and Cashbook like any hand-recorded payment.
- Expense — posts an expense with the category you set (rent, subscription, SIP, insurance). It shows on the Expenses list and in category totals.
- Invoice — creates a draft invoice on each run, numbered on your invoice series, with the client and line items from the rule. Drafts arrive ready for you to review and send — nothing goes to a client unchecked.
Schedules
A rule runs daily, weekly, monthly or yearly, with an “every N” multiplier — “every 3 months” is a quarterly subscription, “every 2 weeks” a fortnightly one. You also set the next run date; each time the rule fires, that pointer advances one interval, so the same day is never posted twice.
Create, edit, pause, delete
- Open Recurring → New: choose income, expense or invoice, amount, optional label and description, category (expense) or client (income and invoice), frequency and next run date.
- Edit (the pencil) reopens the dialog seeded with the rule — change the amount when a retainer is renegotiated, or push the next run out a month.
- Pause with the switch on the row; the rule keeps its place and resumes when you flip it back.
- Delete from the row — with an Undo in the toast if you slip.
When entries actually post
Due rules are materialised twice over: when you open the app, and by a daily server-side job that covers everyone — so a retainer posts on the 1st even if your phone stays in your pocket. Each posted entry carries the rule's description or label, and every row on Recurring shows its next run date so you can see what's coming.
Access & control
Owners and assistants create and manage rules; an invited accountant sees the rules and the posted entries read-only. Recurring is a module — enable it under Profile → Modules if the screen isn't in your nav.

Frequently asked questions
Will my rent expense post even if I don't open the app?
Yes — a daily server-side job materialises due rules for everyone, so entries post on schedule regardless of whether the app is opened.
Can I set a quarterly or fortnightly schedule?
Yes — every frequency takes an "every N" multiplier: monthly × 3 is quarterly, weekly × 2 is fortnightly.
Can Finocket send a recurring invoice automatically?
Yes — create a rule with the Invoice type. Each run creates a draft invoice on your numbering series with the client and line items from the rule; you review the draft and send it, so nothing goes out unchecked.
What happens when I pause a rule?
Nothing posts while paused; the rule keeps its next-run pointer and resumes exactly where it left off when you switch it back on.
