Day Book, Cashbook and Outstanding

The three books you open every morning: chronological Day Book, cash-vs-UPI-vs-bank Cashbook, and Outstanding with WhatsApp reminders.

Three books you open every morning to check the state of your business: the Day Book (every voucher, chronologically), the Cashbook (payments by cash, UPI, bank, cheque) and Outstanding (who owes you, who you owe, with ageing and WhatsApp reminders). Finocket models them on the Tally screens accountants already know.

The Day Book

Press J or open Day Book. Every voucher — payment, expense, invoice, visit — appears in one chronological feed with totals, filterable by date range and voucher type. Long-press a row for quick actions (edit, delete, duplicate). It's the fastest "what happened yesterday" scan there is, and you can export it as a clean, accountant-ready PDF.

The Cashbook — and how it differs from the Day Book

The Cashbook shows payments only, grouped by how they were paid — Cash, UPI, Bank Transfer, Cheque, or all together — with a total converted to your home currency where foreign-currency payments exist. The Day Book is everything (sales, expenses, payments) in date order; the Cashbook answers "how much came in by which mode". Use it before a bank reconciliation, or to spot oddities like a sudden pile of cheques.

Outstanding

Press O or open Outstanding. Two tabs:

  • Receivables — every unpaid invoice, grouped into ageing buckets (0–30, 31–60, 61–90, 90+ days). Long-press an invoice for quick actions including Remind via WhatsApp — the message opens pre-filled with the amount, reference and portal link.
  • Payables — the bills and dues you owe, aged the same way.

The header totals everything across buckets. An overdue-interest calculator shows what your overdue receivables are costing at an annual rate you set — an advisory figure only; nothing is added to invoices.

The client ledger

For any client: tap their name → Ledger — a chronological run of every invoice and payment with a running debit/credit balance, each entry linking back to the voucher. The Statement of Account (print/CSV) is the CA-ready format with total outstanding at the bottom.

Access & control

Owners and assistants use all three books with full quick actions; an invited accountant sees them read-only (a Read-only banner shows, write actions are hidden). These are core screens — no module toggle.

Frequently asked questions

What is a day book and what should it contain?

A day book is the chronological register of every transaction — sales, purchases, receipts, payments — in the order they happened. Finocket builds it automatically from your vouchers with date filters, totals and a PDF export, so there's no separate register to maintain.

What's the difference between a cash book and a day book?

The day book records every transaction of any kind in date order; the cash book records only money movements, organised by mode (cash, UPI, bank, cheque). In Finocket the Day Book is your full feed and the Cashbook is the by-mode view of payments.

How do I maintain petty cash for a small business?

Record each small cash expense in Finocket as you go (press E) with the Cash mode; the Cashbook's Cash tab then is your petty-cash register, and the Day Book keeps it in context with everything else.

How do I remind a client about a pending invoice on WhatsApp?

Open Outstanding, long-press the invoice, choose Remind via WhatsApp — the message is pre-filled with the amount, invoice reference and the client-portal payment link.
